Can one get into “the zone” working on a mathematical problem?
It’s weird – I was working on becoming a paralegal (after 2 years of university and dropping out) and was taking algebra over again – actually I never had college algebra (wish I did) went straight to calculus. then I have been out of school for 4 years. My favorite class is algebra and I find myself reading a lot of popular math books. I’ve decided to become a math teacher.
Sometimes in this forum; a particular problem just catches my attention and I’ll work on it hours at an end and the time just dissapears. The closest experiences to that I have previously is playing basketball in high school and hunting now.
Am I becoming a nerd? Will I need glasses soon?
Do other people get into the zone on some math problems like to the point you wake up with the answer?
I “zone” sometimes on hard problems. One time I started working on an extremely hard problem in the International Olympiad and actually dreamed about it. And if you’re deciding to become a math teacher, you need to love math. So it’s actually a good thing you get into the “zone”; many people have an attention span of a moth.
