Windows XP FULL version….OEM vs. retail….what is the better choice?
I know what the difference is but I don’t understand how it complies with the “activation” code that Windows XP requires.
If I buy XP OEM full version from someone, how do I know that the activation key hasn’t already be used?
Is this even legal?
I understand selling a Nero OEM CD because that doesn’t need to be registered (you just intall it on a computer), however isn’t an XP OEM CD a CD that was already installed on another computer?
I want a full version of XP and was going to get the OEM version because it’s cheaper but I don’t understand what is the major difference between OEM and retail? They charge $50-60 just to give you a box and a manual?
I usually buy retail hardware because manufacturers will give better warranties to retail products instead of OEM, however this is software and doesn’t need a warranty.
I buy OEM versions for my customers, _from my licensed retailer_, so there is not a problem with previous use of the keys.
For my own machines, I always get the full retail version, or the upgrade if my current system qualifies. Better tech support, you know.
