What are some fun learning Activities I can use to help tutor a 5 year old child?
The main thing he needs help on is reading, but I also need things to help him find learning fun. Hands on, not just paper. I looked this up on google, but it is all computer based. We aren’t using a computer.. Any suggestions?
There are all sorts of things you can do. Make flashcards of his sight words and play games identifying them – pattern games off of other games you know, like matching game, crazy eights, go fish, etc. Get a fly swatter from the dollar store and play a game where you say the word and the child then has to swat the word from a collection of the flashcards laying on a table. Sort 6 words into categories (rather have the child do this) Make the child create the categories or you can suggest them. For example, if the words were dog, hat, play, go, chair, and fly – the child might sort them by noun and verb or things with a short vowel and things with a long vowel. Kids are creative – they can come up with some really unique categories. Take a group of words and challenge each other to make a sentence using all of the words. ie. My dog wanted to go play like he could fly a chair while wearing a hat. These are just a few ideas. Use these to come up with variations fo your own.
