Is this crazy or did I over react?
I have a day care in my home and I was interviewing a possible client recently. She called me later to ask for references, but also to discuss her concern with the backyard play area. She didn’t like that my yard had a steep incline and that I kept all the outside play equipment on the deck (a very good size deck) and that the children never played in the yard. She then told me that she was getting ready to rent a bulldozer for her yard and suggested that I rent it from her and even out my backyard so the kids could play. I told her that it was not in my budget to drastically change the landscape of my yard and that it would stay as is. She pushed the issue and I told her I didn’t think it was a good idea for her to bring her child to the day care and she got angry with me. I told her I was offended and ended the conversation. This lady was a bit on the crazy side in my opinion, or did I over react? What would you say to someone who asked you to bulldoze your yard?
If someone asked me to do that, I’d tell them to take a hike. I mean come on–having the daycare provider bulldoze their yard just for your kid? That’s crazy. So what is she going to do when that kid starts school? “I’m sorry, these woodchips under the playground equipment are too sharp for my child–could you please scoop them all up and replace them with packing peanuts?”
