Fantasy Football League Manager
Fantasy football leagues don’t just form themselves and they don’t run smoothly on their own. Each fantasy football league manager must go through a process in a timely manner to make sure everything is in place before draft day.
It’s one of those things that nobody wants to do. You’d think that everyone would jump at the opportunity to be fantasy football league manager, but the fact is, most people would rather not play than take over the responsibilities.
Your lazy friends sit by each year and wait for you to send out the invites for the fantasy league. If they don’t see it by a certain time then the emails start flooding in to you wondering what’s going on and why haven’t you set up the league yet? When I start to get these emails I usually send replies stating, “I sent them out, I just didn’t invite you,” or something along these lines. This is good for a cheap laugh and gets the smack talk going early. There are a myriad of possibilities for this reply; just be creative and profanity is encouraged.
When the big day finally does come for the fantasy football league manager to pull everything together and get the league started, the first thing that happens is the setting up of the scoring system.
If you’ve managed a league before the online site that you have used in the past will usually keep your settings in place. Check them over, make any necessary changes that might help your team win and then get the invites ready.
Online fantasy football leagues make it easy to send out invitations, especially if you have an email account with them. You can just tap into the address book and it’s as good as done. Take some time to think about who you want in your league as these are the people you will have to deal with all year. This is definitely one of the perks of being the fantasy football league manager so take full advantage.
Once everyone has set up their teams and reviewed the scoring system, it’s time to set up a draft time. The super rookie leagues should take advantage of auto draft which picks all your players for you based on pre-season rankings. You just hit a button and let it ride. Check back in a day or so and see what players you got; simple.
For the more serious leagues you’ll want to do a live draft. This is where each team gets a set amount of time to pick their players, one by one. This can take a while but is the only way to go if you’re serious about constructing a winning team.
Once the draft is done that’s pretty much it for the fantasy football league manager. There are a few responsibilities that may arise during the year as you are the person to handle any controversies or disputes, but for the most part, you just sit back and relax and watch everyone kiss your butt hoping you don’t get too drunk one night and delete their team for fun.
